Question: I’m donating my car, but I want to make sure it won’t just be scrapped (it’s running and in good condition). What do you do with cars in this situation?
Answer: First, we’d like to commend you for your decision to donate a valuable asset to charity! Your chosen charity will be thankful for the funds, and your tax deduction will certainly be beneficial at tax time. It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved!
All cars donated through Cars Helping Charities are first assessed and prepared for sale. This means that if your car is in good running condition or only needs minor repairs and reconditioning to bring the highest dollar amount, we’ll perform those repairs. Conversely, if the car doesn’t run, is in poor condition, or the cost to repair would be higher than the value of the car, we will sell it for parts and scrap metal.
After reconditioning, cars that are running are generally sold to a retail outlet, a wholesaler, or at auction. This ensures that the highest dollar amount will be realized for the charity you have chosen to support, and that you will get the best tax deduction possible for your contribution!
