Children's Museum of Stockton

The Children’s Museum of Stockton is dedicated to providing quality education through interactive exhibits. Our 22,000 sq. ft. facility currently houses over 40 exhibits. We provide a safe, fun, educational experience for children, schools and families.  The Children's Museum of Stockton is a 501(c)3 non-profit and all donations are used to enhance exhibits and programming, including vehicle donations.

Inspiration for the Children's Museum came because of the tragic 1989 Cleveland School shootings. While at play, 5 children were killed, and 30 others were wounded — including a teacher — by a gunman firing an assault weapon. That wounded teacher was Janet Geng, Founding Director of The Children’s Museum of Stockton. During her physical and spiritual healing Janet sought to create a safe, violence-free place for learning and play. She knew Stockton deserved such a place. In March of 1990, a small group of community leaders met to discuss the possibilities of a children’s museum. Through support from both the private and public sectors, the Children's Museum of Stockton became a reality. It was a cool spring morning in March 1994. The sound of hammer meeting nail was a familiar friend. Board Members, volunteers, and staff frantically put the final touches on exhibits. A helicopter landed in the parking lot. Kites flew high. Bands played on as the Children’s Museum Kid’s Board cut the ribbon. Over 500 residents rushed to discover the magical world that was promised.
Since that morning in 1994, the Children’s Museum of Stockton has grown to become a family-friendly attraction for our community. With over 40 hands-on interactive exhibits, an Art Studio and various programming, the Museum continues its mission to provide children, families, and schools with a safe and fun center of discovery and learning.
