The University of Colorado Sickle Cell Program, and its partner patient care clinics at the Children's Hospital Colorado and the University of Colorado Hospital on the CU Anschutz Medical Campus, is the region's primary source of specialty expertise and facilitation of comprehensive specialty care for both children and adults living with hemoglobinopathies. Established on the foundation of the former Colorado Sickle Cell Treatment and Research Center, the CU Sickle Cell Program is built on over 50 years of experience and commitment to clinical care, research, education and community engagement.
Basic, clinical and health services research conducted by the CU Sickle Cell Program and its collaborators serves to elucidate the pathophysiology of sickle cell disease, develop and implement treatments and systems of care that prevent or minimize complications and that prolong and improve the quality of life, are supported by funding from the NIH and other Federal agencies, industry, and foundations.
